Have any fun plans for the weekend? If you’re in NYC and looking for a beach to spend the day at, I recommend checking out Rockaway Beach. Once upon a time the area was a popular summer resort and amusement park, but was then replaced by public housing after WWII, and eventually became overrun with gangs and drugs. In the last ten years or so, artists and surfers have bought up the once dilapidated bungalows and really revitalized the neighborhood. We went there for the first time last Sunday. It was a little crowded (as you can see from my picture above) and you have to get used to planes flying above (it’s right by JFK), but the beach was pretty and the food on the boardwalk was delicious. I highly recommend the fish sandwich from Motorboat & the Big Banana, a collaboration between Jean Adamson (Vinegar Hill House) and Lindsay Robinson (Diner). The best part is how easy it is to get to. We drove and were there in 20 minutes, but you can take the A train there as well. Hope you all have a great weekend whatever you do! I was there a few weeks ago – got a lobster sandwich and enjoyed the day by the water with one of my girlfriends. Took about an hour from the East Village, but better than trekking to Penn Station to take LIRR to the beach! Can’t wait to go back! xx
Not a bad beach option, right?! I saw your post on the lobster roll – looked delicious!
Lookin’ lovely! You’re getting close!
Thanks Lauren! Feeling huge. I’m so ready to not be pregnant anymore!
