Zilker Park Kite Festival

by Leslie on March 5, 2012

Hello from Austin! I’m down here for the week to help my sister out with a fun project for SXSW Interactive - something crafty I’ve been working on the last couple weeks. I can’t wait to show it to you, but have a few final touches that need to be made before I do.  A trip to Austin can’t be all work and no play though…

I arrived late Saturday night and woke up Sunday to delicious breakfast tacos followed by a morning spent at the Zilker Park Kite Festival with my two favorite little people, Tessa and Hayes. The festival, which claims to be the nation’s oldest kite festival, was originally started in 1929. My sister and her family go every year, but this was my first kite festival experience. It was really fun! The weather couldn’t have been more perfect – warm with just enough wind. 73 and sunny feels pretty amazing after winter in NYC. Hayes even got a little overheated – nothing taking off your shirt can’t fix. Oh, to be 2. The kids had a great time flying the kites and Aunt Lulu got a little sun on her face. Win win.

24 hours in TX and I’ve already eaten Mexican food twice and got some color. Looking forward to 6 more days of this.
