Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, Bali

by Leslie on December 15, 2011

As promised, this is the final temple I will post about and it’s the prettiest of them all. Jimmy saved the best for last – the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple located on the shore of Lake Beratan near the town of Bedugal. Lake Beratan is a main source of irrigation in central Bali, so the temple, which was built in 1663, is used to give offerings to the lake and river goddess, Dewi Danu. The mountains around the lake where shrouded in clouds while we were there giving the setting a mystical feel. And due to its higher elevation, there was almost a cool breeze coming off the lake. This was the first time in days we weren’t sweating through our clothes immediately after getting out of the car. Oh, the simple pleasures!
