Friday we rode the tram to the top of Victoria Peak, a mountain that has long been the most coveted and expensive place to live on Hong Kong Island because of its sweeping panoramic views. The beautiful, old tram that took us to the top was first opened in 1888. On the way up, I pretended I was in The Painted Veil, minus the adultery and cholera of course. Unfortunately, at the top, we were met with a huge mall of shops and restaurants including, wait for it… a Bubba Gump Shrimp. My Painted Veil fantasy was ruined, but the view from the observation deck was really stunning. And we may have had a beer at Bubba Gump’s before heading back down. There’s a serious lack of bars in Hong Kong! Don’t judge me!
