Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain

by Leslie on November 11, 2011

On our way home from running errands yesterday, we rode past this adorable, old-fashioned soda shop, Brooklyn Farmacy, on the corner of Sackett and Henry in Carroll Gardens. Old-timey, cute, AND milkshakes – yeah, we stopped. Upon entering the shop, you immediately feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The space, which was originally a pharmacy, has been restored with beautiful wooden shelves and cabinets lining the walls, penny tiles on the floor, and original tin ceilings. The soda jerks¬†are dressed in retro uniforms and are surprisingly cheerful and friendly. Normally when a uniform includes a paper hat, the employees are going to be at least slightly disgruntled, but these people were laughing and chatting with each other. They seemed genuinely happy! They serve all sorts of sweet concoctions including sundaes and egg creams (they have a maple egg cream right now – yum), but we opted to split a chocolate milkshake. It was heaven. I tried to convince Jolian to pretend we were on a date in the 50s and drink the milkshake with two straws, but he refused. Sometimes he’s really no fun! If you are in the area, you should definitely check it out. Brooklyn Farmacy – 513 Henry Street Brooklyn, NY 11231
