Botanica

Ahh, Friday, how I’ve missed you. Do you have any plans for the weekend? If the weather is nice, we plan to make one more bike ride to Red Hook to my favorite bar, Botanica, before they close their doors for winter in 2 weeks. Botanica is the perfect bar in my opinion. First of all, their menu consists of old fashioned cocktails and bonbons that are made next door at Cacao Prieto, the owner’s chocolate factory, with cacao from his family’s plantation in the Dominican Republic. The bar itself has lovely floor to ceiling windows that open out onto the cobblestone street and hand painted walls. It’s modeled after the lounge of a Venetian hotel, but feels almost Cuban to me, or what I imagine a Cuban bar to be like. Either way, it gives me the relaxed, vacation feeling that I don’t think I’ve experienced at any other NYC bar. It helps that it’s located on an otherwise dead street in Red Hook, so it’s always quiet, never crowded. Best of all, I can ride my bike there with minimal interaction with cars. Bike paths 95% of the way! If you live in NYC, you should check it out before the season is over. Have a great weekend!
