So, my little day trip to Martha’s Vineyard on Friday unfortunately turned into 2 days spent mostly in airports. Apparently Martha’s Vineyard gets a lot of fog and planes don’t land in fog. This little fact caused an arrival delay, 2 canceled return flights, and a final decision to take a 10 seater plane to White Plains, NY because by that point it seemed close enough to home. I quickly learned Martha’s Vineyard isn’t the easiest place to get to and from.
While MVY is the most charming airport I’ve ever seen (straight out of Wings I tell you), I was happy to bid it adieu when the time came. The trip wasn’t all headaches though. I was lucky enough to spend a few peaceful hours reading and walking on an incredibly beautiful beach in Chilmark (pictures above). Once the fog rolled in (picture below) I drove over to Menemsha, a small fishing village, and had a yummy bowl of clam chowder at the Menemsha Café. And due to my cancelled flight I had the pleasure of staying the night at the lovely Thorncroft Inn in Vineyard Haven.
If you’re going to get stuck somewhere, this was pretty ideal. If it wasn’t for the lack of toiletries and a change of clothes, I would’ve been happy as a clam to have spent the weekend. It’s truly one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been. Every inch of it is pure charm and perfection. I’m really looking forward to visiting the island again with Jolian someday, but will definitely be arriving and departing by ferry.
