As I mentioned on Friday, our apartment was part of the Brooklyn Heights house and garden tour this past weekend. I am still confused as to why we were included. The other four houses on the tour were unbelievable single-family homes, newly renovated… the kind of houses that make your jaw drop to the ground. As I walked through these mansions, I couldn’t help but cringe, thinking about my IKEA couch, imagining people walking through my apartment saying, “What a dump!” Don’t get me wrong, I love my little garden apartment, but compared to these other houses, it is a dump! Even with my landlord’s beautiful duplex, our brownstone was definitely the most modest of the five houses. Insecurities aside, it was a great experience. A little odd to have 800 people walk through (and judge) our apartment, but we met a lot of really nice people. The highlight for me was when Marty Markowitz, our larger than life Brooklyn Borough President, presented us with a certificate naming us “Volunteers Extraordinaire”! It was hilarious. My name is spelled wrong, but I am still framing it. Below are some pictures of our apartment all gussied up.
